Course Evaluations
Course
evaluation packets will be distributed to your mailbox about 4 weeks before
classes end. You will receive a separate packet for each course you are teaching.
(Directions will be on the front of the packet.)
Course
evaluations are anonymous and confidential. Students should not write their
name on the evaluation sheet. Instructors do not see the completed course evaluations
until the semester grades are turned in.
Instructors
are to leave the room while course evaluations are administered. Please appoint
a student to collect the completed evaluations and return them to the American
Studies office in W-5-003.
We want
you to have accurate feedback on your evaluations. Below are some tips to keep
your evaluations on track:
- Announce
the date you will give course evaluations in advance so that students can
be prepared. If any student is absent when course evaluations are given, the
student may come to the American Studies Office and the administrative assistant
will give the student an evaluation and add it to your packet.
- Allow
your students adequate time to fill out the evaluations. Fifteen minutes should
be adequate. If you do evaluations at the end of class, allow at least fifteen
minutes before class ends. Appoint a student who does not have a class immediately
afterwards to take the evaluations up to the American Studies office.
- Do your
evaluations BEFORE the last day of class. Often, students who have not been
in class most of the semester will show up on the last day--and fill out an
evaluation even though they have not been in class.
- Do not
give your evaluations during a final exam. (1): the instructor is to leave
the room during the evaluations, and, (2): after the stress of a final, students
will frequently evaluate your final exam rather than the course.
If you
have any questions, do not hesitate to ask Shauna
in the main office.
