Whether or not total run-off from a deforested water-shed is equal to that before deforestation is not so important a factor with reference to fish life as the fact that the even flow and the even temperature of former days are very seriously disturbed. Attempts to remedy declining fishing conditions at various trout preserves in New York, New England, and Canada have shown in every instance that the problem is largely one of high temperature, directly or indirectly due to deforestation... All fishes are directed in their spawning habits by water temperature.
