The Merrimack River

The Merrimack River runs through New Hampshire and is formed by the union of the Pemigewasset River and the Winnipesaukee River at Franklin, New Hampshire.  This river basin drains approximately 5000 square miles of land and water.  The river itself is 116 miles long.  It courses throughout New Hampshire for a distance of 78 miles and after dropping into Massachusetts, flows north-eastward for 35 miles meeting with the Atlantic ocean at Newburyport.
