FRIENDS:

We have received a surprisingly large response in support of Pueblos Unidos del Rincón and Crisanto Manzano. Letters, E-mails and faxes were sent in much greater abundance than we had anticipated. Of course this called much attention to the problem that now afflicts the Rincón of the Sierra Juárez.

On the part of all of us, a thousand thanks.

Sadly, the problem continues, and no solution is yet in sight. Crisanto is tired, worried, but firm in what he believes. He lives under much tension in his community.

The state police have already twice demolished the blockade of the road that United Towns continues returning to construct, with the intention of pushing for a dialogue. Fortunately, as far as we have been able to determine, there hasn't been a serious confrontation.

By order of the Governor of the State, the police took the buses seized by those who oppose the organization. The pretext of the police is that they are taking them in order to "return them to their owners." Curiously, the owners don't know where their trucks are. This act, which brought a confrontation between campesinos and police, was recorded by Julio César, son and collaborator of Crisanto in the production of videos.

Beyond the two buses, beyond the concession of a transportation line, beyond including the physical danger that Crisanto and other people are facing, there exists the pain and danger of losing other parts of the free determination of indigenous peoples, the efforts of many years and of many people remaining trampled in order that a few people continue dividing, partitioning and privatizing. This is what United Towns and many others are confronting.

As part of the visionary determination that Crisanto carries forward is his firm decision to make a video about this experience, with the collaboration of Julio César, his son.

Knowing that all of you are sending faxes, declaring solidarity and demonstrating friendship in so many ways and so profoundly gives all of us much strength.

Crisanto and the directors of United Towns of the Rincón of Sierra Juárez express affection, appreciation and greetings, and ask that they not be left isolated.

We will keep you informed.

Again, thanks.

Warmly,

AND MUCH MUCH MORE!!!
