I did not know until yesterday that the mortgage for September was not paid because of the financial hardships resulting from travel and missed work incurred by Boysen's mother's death. We both apologize, once again, for the late payment. We are doing our best to stay afloat on one income (one, by the way, that does not include bereavement time--hence, the difficulty of the last month for us). In terms of your suggestion of building housing for several people on the property, and making this a legal change to the conditions of our promissory note, we want to be as cooperative as possible but there are so many questions at this point (building codes, property insurance, property tax increase with additional structures, questions of legal liability in terms of Massachusetts landlord/tenant law, the digging of an additional well and septic system, the fact that because we are not sole owners Eric, Ted, and the two of us would have to be in total accord about any building proposals or change in the use of the land, et cetera) that it's really hard for us to make a firm commitment. We do appreciate your continuing courtesy and patience. If you should get a chance to visit, the foliage is spectacular this year. Very truly yours, Jessamyn Smyth
