As nearly the whole world opposes Bush’s threatened unilateral assault on Iraq, he is pressing the UN Security Council to give him a fig leaf. The next report of the chief weapons inspectors to the Security Council is set for Friday, February 28 -- one week from today! In the face of mounting worldwide opposition Bush says he will introduce a second resolution before that date, one saying Iraq is in “material breach” of the earlier Council resolution calling for its disarmament. The Security Council has, until now, been steadfast in calling for diplomacy, not war. This is a critical moment to support that position. E-mails to the delegations of the Security Council, especially from Americans, can help them continue their opposition to U.S. pressure for war. Never in history has it been so urgent to defeat a government's plans for conquest as it is right now. I urge you to vote against ANY RESOLUTION that can be used by the U.S. government as authorization to attack Iraq!
