Mazin Qumsiyeh was my initial source for information on individual Israeli war criminals in the intense military slaughter in Gaza. His note of 19 Nov 2010, included again with this list (Set # 2) as endnote [1], is for every one of us who cares about life on this planet. He requested: “Those with computer knowledge, please download, save, and post on multiple websites because this information is being suppressed”. With this posting I will have placed the information on the first 40 of the 200 named war criminals on my website, which I believe is quite secure. It would be very desirable to also have all the information on Wikileaks, surely the most secure site. The public sites I know of that are (or may be) relevant are in endnote [2].

The need for caution
The Israeli government is of course trying to do everything it can to protect “its war criminals”, which is why it acted promptly to take down the original site. We do not know the identity of the person or people responsible for the information in the original posting, though it was presumably a member of the military who was disgusted at the entire murderous assault and decided to “blow the whistle” by exposing individual personal resonsibilities. The potential impact of publicizing the information on the Israeli regime is clearly shown by its frantic efforts to suppress its dissemination. This also strongly indicates that the information is very likely largely accurate — that the individuals identified are exactly who they are represented as being. In other words, they can be arrested and charged criminally if they travel to any of the countries that is a party to the supposed United Nations’ norms on human rights.

We can be thankful for the disclosure, as we were for The Pentagon Papers and as we are for Wikileaks, but we must draw a sharp distinction between this first revelation, and any subsequent “information” because we can be certain that the Zionist enterprise will publicize a great deal of disinformation in an attempt to “muddy up the waters” and divert attention away from the prime culprits outed in the first explosive revelation. Thus we should be careful to distinguish between the initial information, likely mostly accurate, and whatever comes in subsequently. If I have occasion to add material after my initial posts on the 200 named individuals, I will make sure it is readily identifiable, perhaps by putting it in bold red or green font.

The real challenge
Now comes the really tough part. Of course I hate the actions of these war criminals. And I want them to be punished — severely! I don’t feel any compassion for them. But the problem is, and this I know only intellectually, not “in my gut”, if I am serious about wanting a better world, then vengeance, punishment, coercion — the usual means of manipulating people in our all-too-familiar violent societies — will not work — it will only contribute to making things worse. I’ve made as strong an argument for this perception of human social reality as I can in my recent posting, The ethics of a just solution of the “Palestinian/Israeli” conflict. [3] But the question for me is, Do I believe it? Do I really believe it is conceivable for humanity to alter the course of history? Of course I don’t know. Most of my friends believe I’m just a looney utopian, maybe a bit senile, not to be taken seriously. And of course they may be right.

Nevertheless, and on this practically everyone who thinks about the current state of the world agrees, if we don’t radically change human global society in the immediate future, the result will be utterly catastrophic for most, and maybe all humans, and for the existence of most life forms, if not all. If this argument is correct, as I’m certain it is in its general terms, though of course details may vary, then we are led to the necessity — for our own good, not that of the murderous Zionists — to act with compassion and forgiveness towards everyone, including them. This will be a hard but necessary pill to swallow, if the survival of our species is to have even a chance. I know such a course of behavior will infuriate many people. Certainly among the billions who are aware of the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians, most will respond with disbelief that any decent human being could propose such a gentle, non-violent resolution. And among the few million Jews in the world, those who have been brainwashed by the Zionist propaganda juggernaut will also hate the prospect of the nation-state of Israel being dissolved. In addition there must be a good few million Americans among the extremist right-wing evangelicals whose hatred of Jews will make them oppose any merciful solution that includes forgiveness for the killers.

While listing categories that will probably include billions of people opposed to the idea of a non-violent resolution I cannot forget my own recent contacts with individuals, including Americans, who are, I've come to believe, solidly in the camp of neo-Nazis. These folks have their own recipes for what should be done with “the Jews”. [4]

NOTES
[1] Mazin Qumsiyeh forwarded the file, which began with the text:
“The following information was received anonymously; presumably from a member of the Israeli Military. It was presented as follows:
Underlining the following people is an act of retribution and affront. They are the direct perpetrators, agents for the state of Israel that in Dec.- Jan. 2008- 2009 attacked scores of people in the besieged Gaza. The people listed here held positions of command at the time of the attack therefore not only did they perform on behalf of a murderous state mechanism but actively encouraged other people to do the same. They bear a distinctive personal responsibility. They range from low-level field commanders to the highest echelons of the Israeli army. All took an active and direct role in the offensive.
In underlining them we are purposefully directing attention to individuals rather than the static structures through which they operate. We are aligning people with actions. It is to these persons and others, Like them, to which we must object and bring our plaints to bear upon.
This information was pirated. We encourage people to seek out other such similar information, it is readily available in the public sphere and inside public officials' locked cabinets. This is a form of resistance that can be effectively sustained for a long while.
This project for one, has only just begun, do your bit so that this virtual list may come to bear upon the physical. Disseminate widely.”
The introductory note was followed by identification of 200 Israeli military people in command roles for the attack on Gaza, each of them personally responsible for behaving as a war criminal and commanding other Israeli military to act as war criminals.
