Amazon's a corporation. Its goal is simpy to "make" as much money as possible. A couple of days ago I came across an author -- Benjamin Ginsberg -- and a book of his -- The Fatal Embrace: Jews and the State while browsing the web. He sounded like someone I'd want to read, and the subject is close to my current focus, so I succumbed. No urgency, never mind Amazon's glitzy "delivery in 24 hours" come on, I opted for ordinary mail delivery, supposedly within a few weeks. The next day I think it was -- yesterday morning, the 8th -- the mailman rang the bell with a book and some mail. Since I get every title that AK Press puts out, I assumed it was just another of theirs. Wrong again! It was Benjamin Ginsberg's book, the 1998 paperback edition with its own extra preface. By last night I'd read the final chapter -- the earlier chapters can wait.

I was, and still am, amazed at the speed with which Amazon got that merchan-
dise to me. The shipping carton has four obviously high-automation produced labels, two of which have the address Amazon.com, 1850 Mercer Rd., Lexington Ky 40511. Probably a low-wage area that Amazon benefits from making use of. One sticker has the printed information, DiztRc94N/-1of1-/std-intl-us-latam/6400194 1XSP. A shipping slip inside the carton also has that information, except that in place of the 1XSP at the end, is says /0629-02:00/0628-14:35/jwilk. Taylorism exemplified. My guess is that DiztRc94N identifies the origin of the parcel, -1 of 1-/std-intl-us-latam indicates there's just 1 parcel in the order, which is being shipped as standard international freight from the US to Latin America. Perhaps 6400194 identifies the employee involved in the operation. And the 1XSP could mean 1 item, express, special post. The extra info on the shipping slip probably means that the order, which came in at 14:35 on June 28, was processed at 02:00 on June 29 by the graveyard shift employee jwilk.

The sobering fact is that Capitalism Works for me too. The rapidity with which the "information age" has burst upon us makes it possible (because I am a privileged person) for me to live here in Oaxaca and to be in touch with people all over the world. A welcome window on reality, especially with Julian Assange's Wikileaks in full flower. I hope it's in time to help save the Palestinians, struggling to regain their rightful homeland. [1]

A good friend of mine, Louis Urban Kohler and I have been in touch because we share horror at the development of a Jewish Nazi regime in Palestine. Just as the German Nazi regime was considered illegitimate by much of the world at the close of World War II and dissolved by the militarily victorious powers, so also is the nation-state of Israel increasingly seen to be illegitimate and deserving of dissolution. The destruction of Palestine should be stopped and the land returned to its indigenous peoples. There is a fairly brief sketch for doing this without any further bloodshed, torture, theft or suffering of any of the peoples involved, including the would-be Jewish Zionist conquerors.

[1]. Stopping the carnage. Sketch for a humane resolution of the Palestine/Israel conflict, a possible way to reslove all conflicts. http://site.www.umb.edu/faculty/salzman_g/t/2010-11-13.htm
